“The position for this pair was closed on the exchange outside the bot”
The bot regularly compares the position on the exchange with its own calculation. If there is no position on Bybit or it is smaller than expected, the bot adjusts and tells you about it.
What it means
The texts differ by bot:
- Grid: “⚠️ BTC grid (BTCUSDT) The position for this pair was closed on the exchange outside the bot (expected 0.5, on exchange 0). Exit orders were removed, levels released, entry orders keep working. If this was not you, check your account.”
- Grid, a partial reduction: “The position on the exchange (0.3) is smaller than expected (0.5): part of it was closed outside the bot or reduced by the exchange. Exit orders were resized to the real position.”
- DCA: the exchange removes the bot's take-profit together with the position, the bot sees a zero position, finishes the cycle as closed outside the bot and cancels the remaining orders; then comes the cooldown and a new cycle by the usual rules.
- A signal trade: “ℹ️ Position closed manually on the exchange. Finishing the trade: cancelling remaining orders and recording the result.” — the size and the price of the external close are included in the PnL of the trade.
What the bot does not do: for Grid, the profit or loss of your close does not get into Realized P&L; the entry orders keep building a new position, the bot does not stop. For Grid the check runs roughly every 3 minutes, and the message arrives no more often than once every 30 minutes.
Why it happens
- You closed or reduced the position in the Bybit app.
- The exchange closed the position by force: a liquidation or an automatic reduction — then there will be a message with 💥 next to it.
- The position was touched by another person or service with access to the same keys.
What to do
- If it was you and the bot is no longer needed — stop it properly: ⏹️ Stop in the bot card. Closing the position on the exchange does not stop the bot, and Grid will keep buying.
- If it was you and the bot is still needed — nothing has to be done: Grid has released the levels and continues, DCA will start a new cycle after the cooldown.
- If it was not you — check the history on Bybit: look for a liquidation and for actions that are not yours. If you suspect someone else has access, reissue the keys and update them in the bot: bot card → Bot settings → Update API keys.
Related messages about manual intervention: “🔁 DCA: Take-Profit was cancelled on the exchange outside the bot — placed again for the whole position from the current average entry price.” and “🔁 BTC grid (BTCUSDT) The SELL exit order at level 62000 was cancelled on the exchange outside the bot — placed again.” — the bot puts the removed exit orders back itself.
When to contact support
If the position exists on Bybit while the bot considers it closed (or the other way round) and the difference does not go away after the next check — write to support: the pair, the bot number and a screenshot of the position on the exchange.
