What to do in case of a liquidation
A liquidation is a forced close of a position by the exchange when the margin is no longer enough. The bot does not cause it and cannot cancel it, but it notices it and puts the trade in order.
What it means
The messages in order:
- “💥 Warning: the exchange is forcibly closing the position. The price reached the liquidation level (or the auto-deleveraging ADL mechanism triggered). Reconciling the trade with the exchange — the outcome will arrive in the next message. Going forward: use lower leverage and a mandatory Stop-Loss to avoid liquidation.”
- “💥 Position liquidated by the exchange. … The trade is finished.” — the remaining orders are cancelled, and the trade goes to the history with the status “💥 Liquidated by the exchange”.
- If only a part was closed: “💥 The exchange forcibly closed PART of the position (partial liquidation or ADL auto-deleveraging): 1.0 → 0.6 ETH. The trade continues on the remainder, the bot is recalculating protection for it. ⚠️ Check your free margin: if the price keeps moving against the position, the remainder can be liquidated too.”
For DCA a liquidation counts as a stop-loss in the counter “⚠️ Consecutive SL: 1 / 3”. Liquidation notifications are critical — they arrive immediately.
Why it happens
- High leverage: at 25x a liquidation is possible after the price moves against you by 4 %, at 50x by 2 %, at 100x by 1 %. The bot warns about this when a trade is opened.
- A trade without a stop: “Warning: the signal trade was opened WITHOUT a stop-loss (bot is configured to trade without SL). Liquidation risk — monitor the position manually.”
- CROSS without a stop: “⚠️ Warning: Cross margin without Stop-Loss. If the position goes deep into the negative, liquidation will affect the entire account (including balances of other bots).”
What to do
- Wait for the second message with the reconciliation — only after it does the card show the outcome.
- Check on Bybit that no position and no orders are left on the pair; after a partial liquidation check how much free margin is left and where the stop is now.
- If the whole account suffered, stop the other bots and sort out the cause before you continue.
- Reduce the risk for the future: set your own leverage instead of the leverage from the signal (Trading settings → “Margin and leverage” → Custom), turn on a default Stop-Loss, consider ISOLATED instead of CROSS, turn on 🛡️ Kill switch — when the account drawdown reaches the percentage you set, it pauses all Grid and DCA bots.
What the bots do by themselves. A Grid bot on futures closes the position at market in advance: “less than 15 % left to the liquidation price” or “used account margin … reached 80 %”, and once a minute it keeps a safety stop 0.5 % before the liquidation (you can see it in Bybit → Positions → TP/SL, it is not your SL). A DCA bot shows “⚠️ Liquidation (estimate): ~$52000 (-13%)” in the card.
When to contact support
If after a liquidation the trade in the bot stays active for longer than a few minutes, or a Grid bot closed by the liquidation protection at a small leverage — write to support: the trade or bot number, the time and a screenshot of the Bybit history.
