Exchange refusals during maintenance
During planned or unplanned work the exchange stops accepting new orders on some pairs. The bot warns you in advance, and it does not count the refusals during that time as your mistake.
What it means
Two messages:
- In advance, from the exchange announcement: “⚠️ Exchange scheduled maintenance … 🕒 Starts at: … 📊 Affected pairs: … During maintenance the exchange may temporarily reject new orders and process existing ones with delay. Consider pausing your bots in advance if needed.”
- At the moment of the refusal: “⚠️ Symbol BTCUSDT is temporarily unavailable for trading”. The message names scheduled maintenance or a forced pause on the exchange as the cause and adds: “Orders will be placed automatically once trading resumes. Pause duration depends on the exchange (typically 30 minutes to several hours).”
The orders already standing on the exchange stay there; the bot places the new ones itself once trading resumes. The maintenance notification arrives even in “Errors only” mode.
Do not confuse this with the messages “DCA bots are temporarily unavailable” and “Grid bots are temporarily unavailable” — that is work on the Sync side, it is not personal and has nothing to do with the exchange.
Why it happens
- Planned Bybit work on particular pairs or on the whole market.
- A forced trading pause on a pair.
- Sometimes “⏳ The exchange did not respond within 5 seconds. Try again in a minute — if it keeps happening, the exchange is overloaded or unavailable.” arrives next to it — the exchange answers, but with a delay.
What to do
Before the work starts:
- Look at your open positions: if a stop may fail to trigger during the work and the position is large — pause the bot (⏸️ Pause) or close the position in advance.
- Remember that the Stop-Loss of a Grid bot and of DCA in SL Timeout mode is run by the bot, not by the exchange: if the exchange does not accept orders, a position cannot be closed by such a stop at that moment.
During the work:
- Do not cancel orders and do not close positions by hand through the app — the exchange may process that with a delay, and the bot will then see a mismatch.
- The refusals about a symbol being temporarily unavailable need no action.
After the work:
- Check that the bot's orders are back on the exchange: every 5 minutes a Grid bot compares the number of orders and adds the missing ones.
- If a Grid bot paused with the reason “3 consecutive order placement errors” or a DCA bot with “Could not start a new cycle”, tap ▶️ Resume / ▶️ Start once trading resumes.
- If a message about a lost connection to the exchange arrived, wait for “🔄 Sync after reconnection completed”.
When to contact support
If trading on the pair resumed long ago and the bot still gets the message about the symbol being temporarily unavailable or does not place orders — write to support: the pair, the bot name and the time.
