Dust on spot

Dust is a remainder of a coin worth less than the exchange minimum order. The exchange does not accept such a remainder for sale, so the bot leaves it on the account and warns you.

What it means

The texts of the messages:

  • A signal trade: “ℹ️ The trade is closed. 0.00007 BTC remain on the exchange — this amount is below the exchange minimum order (≈5 USDT), so it cannot be sold. The coins stay in your account: sell them via small balance conversion (Convert) or wait for the price to rise. The bot no longer tracks this trade.”
  • Grid and DCA after a stop: “ℹ️ BTC grid (BTCUSDT) After the stop, 0.00007 BTC remain on the account — less than the exchange minimum order, so the bot cannot sell them. Sell via Convert or keep them.”
  • A refusal from the exchange on an attempt to sell: “⚠️ The order value is below the exchange minimum (usually ≈5 USDT). What to do: such a remainder cannot be sold with a regular order — use the exchange's small balance conversion (Convert / Convert Small Balances), or buy more of the coin up to the minimum amount and sell it in one order.”

Example: 0.00007 BTC are left on the account at a price of 60 000 USDT — that is 4.2 USDT, below the minimum of about 5 USDT. The trade is considered closed, and the bot no longer manages it.

Why it happens

  • Partial fills: the sale did not go through for the whole size, and the remainder turned out to be below the minimum.
  • Rounding of the size to the exchange lot step, plus fees — after the close a tiny fraction of the coin is left.

This is a known feature of spot trading, not a bot error.

What to do

  1. Do nothing — the remainder can stay on the account, it does not interfere with new trades and bots.
  2. Sell it through the small balance conversion on Bybit: in the assets section find Convert / Convert Small Balances and exchange the dust for USDT.
  3. Or buy more of the coin up to the minimum amount and sell it in one order.
  4. Or wait for the price to rise, until the remainder is worth more than the minimum, and sell it with a regular order.

If the bot could not close the position at all, a different message arrives: “⛔️ Automatic position closing failed after several attempts. Sell the remainder manually in the exchange app and contact support. If the exchange rejects it because the amount is too small, use the small balance conversion (Convert).”

When to contact support

Dust by itself is not a reason to write. Contact support if the remainder is noticeably larger than the minimum order (tens of USDT) and the bot still finished the trade without selling it, or if the message about automatic closing having failed arrived.
